Getting A Job in 2022: Part 1 – Set Yourself Up for Success

It’s a new year and the perfect time to get that dream job, leave that terrible position, or make a career change. Not sure how to do that? Don’t worry Jobs Market is posting a seven-part series on Getting a Job in 2022. We are covering part one – setting yourself up for success – in today’s blog. The most important thing to remember when trying to land a new job or career is you need to start in the right mindset. Secondly, you need to be prepared and organized in your job hunt so when that perfect opportunity comes by you are ready to pounce on it!

Get in the Mindset

The last two years have been a constant mess and stress point for pretty much everyone. We’ve dealt with a pandemic, lockdowns, layoffs, staff shortages, and so many other issues – and that’s merely on the work front. This might make it difficult to get or stay positive when you are trying to get a new job, position, or change careers.

We have a few tips for getting in the right mindset to make this vital change in your life.

  1. Create or find a positive mantra. Keep repeating it – daily, or even hourly if needed.
  2. Remember you deserve a job, career, or work life that makes you happy and fulfilled. Life is short. You shouldn’t feel miserable most of the week and live for time off only.
  3. Really investigate what skills and talents you have. Then, determine which you are most passionate about. The point where those two areas intersect is where you should be focusing your energy on for finding a new job or career.
  4. Don’t give up, even when it seems like a lost cause the right job or career is just beyond the next curve in life.

Prepare Yourself & Get Organized

Now that you are in the right mindset it is time to prepare yourself for that job and get organized. Are you wondering, how do I do that? Well, here are a few things to get ready for that new job or career.

  • Keep a spreadsheet or notepad with all the jobs you are applying for and make notes of any updates for each one.
  • Have all your ‘ducks in a row’, this includes having a current, well-drafted resume and the right know-how on writing the perfect cover letter.
  • Scout out all the job opportunities you might be interested in pursuing.
  • Always prepare for interviews.
  • Understand the importance of follow-up.
  • Be ready to utilize part-time, temporary, or freelance work to make ends meet and don’t let that get you discouraged.

Are you unsure of what you need on your resume these days? Do you get stressed before interviews? Don’t worry the next five parts in this blog series covers those items and many other vital aspects on how to get a job this year!
